Small paper fan, by japanese hand dyed washi paper
11.6cmx 16.3cm
Cidori Fan (千鳥うちわ)
"Chidori" are small plovers flying over the sea. The word is a homonym for 千取り ("taking a thousand"), symbolizing the wish to gather a thousand fortunes. For this reason, the motif is often used as a good luck charm. Chidori are frequently depicted with waves, and since they represent overcoming the rough waves of society, they carry the meaning of marital harmony and family safety.
Made with handmade washi paper, printed using stencil patterns originally used for kimono printing. Made in Kyoto.
